Alder’s postseason ends in heartbreak

Matthew Seimer, Editor-in-Chief

The Jonathan Alder boys’ basketball team’s postseason ended as quickly as it began with a 39 to 42 loss to the Hawks of Bishop Hartley. The team ended the regular season with an 18 and 5 record. Their record was good enough to grant them a seventh seed and a first-round bye in the state tournament. The boys’ first and last opponent of the tournament, Bishop Hartley, won their first game of the tournament against Eastmoor Academy.

The Pioneers faced the Hawks on February 27 at home. For the majority of the game, Alder looked to be in control. The Pioneers got up to start the game, 8 to 0, and were ahead are at the end of the first, second and third quarters. Through a string of crazy events, the Pioneers lost their lead and trailed 40 to 39 with 15 seconds left in the game. They were unable to get up a decent shot and had to foul the Hawks’ rebounder who then made two free throws to seal the game in their advantage. Bishop Hartley will play St. Francis De Sales in the next round.
