This past week, the Cross Country team ran at the dreaded George Rogers Clark Invitational.

The meet, known for its dreadful hills and cannon start, frightened many new runners.

Without standout senior Jase Headings, the boys team looked to prove themselves as a team that could win without one of their top runners.

Sophomore Luke Malone had a strong showing on Saturday, racing to his second victory. Sophomore Gavin Frick quickly followed, placing fourth.

Sophomores Michael Gray and Zach Hicks followed, placing 11th and 18th respectively. Freshman Brady Corbitt rounded out the Top 5, placing 34th.

The team placed second overall, losing to Teays Valley by only 17 points.

On the girls side, freshman Maddie Davis raced towards a second place finish, running a 21:25.

Freshman Morgan Hicks, junior Ashlyn McDaniel, senior Lexi Thorpe, and freshman Avery Hetch followed.

The team won its third meet of the season, beating Teays Valley by one point.

The team’s next race is at the Panther Invitational in Pickerington next week.
