The Columbus Crew 2023 MLS cup wall banner is revealed to fans.

The Columbus Crew opened up with their first game of the season on Feb. 24, 2024. With all the pre-game events and hustling game, this turned out to be a very exciting MLS game.

Before the pre-game, the team lined up to receive their MLS cup rings. Each player was called as they walked up and received their ring. They also revealed the 2023 MLS Cup wall banner shortly after.

The game quickly started after the beginning events and the Columbus Crew were rushing their opponent Atlanta United’s net. The Crew’s offense kept the pressure high and even had a few breakouts. The first yellow card was given to Atlanta United player Giorgos Giakoumakis after a bad foul against Crew’s Aiden Morris.

Around six minutes later, star player Cucho Hernandez scored the first goal of the season for the Crew, rebounding off of the Atlanta goaltender. Celebration chants were yelling out from the fans while the players huddled and congratulated each other. The atmosphere was incredible for the first goal of the season.

In the second half, the back and forth play was interesting, but resulted in no scoring. Cucho Hernendez tried for a penalty shot, but it was quickly saved by the Atlanta United goalie and defense. Crew goalie Patrick Schulte was proving why he was such an amazing goalie. He had multiple saves that helped lead Columbus to their 1-0 victory.

I appreciated the Columbus Crews’ efforts on making this such an outstanding game. Although the game wasn’t as high scoring, the atmosphere was still so incredible making this such an exciting match.
