With the start of the 2024-2025 NFL season, the first week already was filled with some upsets, surprises, and more. Here is a rundown of some of the most important/interesting games.
Patriots at Bengals: Although the Bengals have a history of not doing as well in the beginning of the season, I for sure thought they would win against the Patriots due to the fact that the Patriots went 4-13 last season, and that this was the first game back for the Bengals’ star quarterback, Joe Burrow. The game ended up being a low 16-10 win for the Patriots. I think the true kicker for the Bengals, was scoring no points in the first half, while the Patriots scored 10. I think the momentum would have shifted if it weren’t for that.
Cowboys at Browns: Although I thought the Cowboys would win, I was not expecting a complete blowout. The star of this game was Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, who scored four field goals, all from 40-yards or more. Browns Quarterback Deshaun Watson could’ve played a little better, since he had two interceptions which contributed to the loss. The final score was 33-17.
Steelers at Falcons: I want to specifically highlight the Steelers, who played the whole game with their new quarterback Justin Fields. I was excited to watch him play for the first time on the team, but was underwhelmed by his no-touchdown performance. In fact, nobody on the team scored a touchdown; yet, they still won the game. I genuinely was impressed by this because you normally don’t see a team only win by field goals. The final score was 18-10.
Broncos at Seattle: I was very impressed with the Broncos’ defense, who were able to get two safeties. Bo Nix, rookie quarterback for the Broncos, didn’t start all that great. His first three chances were all less than a drive. Throughout the game, he slowly got better. I’m not going to fully judge him yet, since it was just his first game, but I’ll be checking in on him over the season. The final score was 26-20.
Ravens at Chiefs: I was super excited for this game, as it was a rematch between last season’s AFC championship. I am already impressed by Chiefs’ rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who scored two touchdowns. I also enjoyed watching how close these two teams were, with the game coming down to a toe-length call. In the end, the score was 27-20.
Overall this week demonstrated the fun of football, with varied performances from individuals. It will be thrilling to watch teams adapt as the season progresses.
