Starbucks revises their holiday cup
December 11, 2015
Dear Editor,
When winter rolls in, everyone starts to crave warm, tasty drinks. Starbucks is known for having delicious beverages to satisfy that need. This year Starbucks is definitely a hot topic in many households. However, instead of the conversation revolving around the special winter drink, the conversation is all about the design of Starbucks’ cup for this year’s holiday season.
Starbucks created a simple red cup for their winter design. Starbucks chose this look hoping the cup will bring in more business since the design isn’t directed to celebrate Christmas. While Starbucks is trying to appear more appealing to people who don’t necessarily celebrate Christmas, other people are enraged because of this design. Christmas celebrators are saying the cup isn’t ‘Christmassy enough’ for them. These people are going to Starbucks to buy coffee; the design of the cup shouldn’t matter.
This year’s Starbucks cup was designed to be a happy medium for Christmas lovers and non-celebrators. In my opinion, Starbucks did a nice job creating a holiday look without supporting a specific holiday. Although there is an uprising scandal because of the design of the cup, all of the talk about Starbucks is allowing the company’s wish to come true and bringing in more business for them.
Sincerely,
Kayla Fredendall
