There are many different ways to cope with one’s emotions. Many celebrities have had issues they did not know how to emotionally deal with, including self harm. Self harm is a very hard topic to talk about; however, there are many celebrities who have self harmed and were honest and open about it because they hoped no one would have to go through what they did.

Many know of Demi Lovato who is a singer, songwriter, actress, and X Factor judge. Lovato went to rehab in October of 2010 to cope with her eating disorder and self harm. To help remind herself to stay strong, Lovato got “Stay Strong” tattooed across her wrists.

Johnny Depp, a very well known actor, had a rough time dealing with his confidence. Though Depp saw his marks in a different way, he told Talk Magazine, “My body is a journal in a way. It’s like what sailors used to do, where every tattoo meant something, a specific time in your life when you make a mark on yourself, whether you do it yourself with a knife or with a professional tattoo artist.”

Most know of actress Angelina Jolie’s story; she has dealt with many things, self harm, eating disorders, and low self confidence. Jolie told Access Hollywood quite a few years ago, “I was.. trying to feel something, I really hurt myself. I was nearly in the hospital.”

Even the beautiful Megan Fox, has had rough patches in her lifetime. She told The Rolling Stone that she does not consider herself as a “cutter”. Fox stated, “I don’t want to elaborate. Girls go through different phases when they’re growing up, when they’re miserable and do different things, whether it’s an eating disorder or they dabble in cutting.”

All in all, it is evident that many people, even famous celebrities, go through things like self harm. They share their stories to tell other people that they’re not alone and to prove help is out there. If you ever suspect someone of harming themselves or see that they are struggling with something, be the one to make the difference in that person’s life.
