The Pioneer Press welcomes The Hilliard Hockey Club
February 5, 2016
The Hilliard Hockey club is comprised of students from several central Ohio communities. Some of our very own JAHS students are on the team. The Pioneer Press welcomes them as they submit articles to update the JA community on their progress this season:
Did you know that Jonathan Alder High School is associated with a high school hockey team? Did you know that 4 students from JAHS are on a High School and JV hockey roster? Jonathan Alder High School is associated with The Hilliard Hockey Club, who is a member of The Greater Columbus High School Club Hockey League (GCHSCHL). The GCHSCHL determines player/ team placement based upon the high school that a player is currently attending (or will be attending). In addition, home schooled players are assigned based on the public school district of their residency.
Hilliard Hockey was started in the fall of 1997 with the purpose to give kids living west of route 315 a competitive place to play hockey, while attending high school. Hilliard has had a rich tradition of success since our inception, which is symbolized by The block “H” on the front of the players’ jerseys. The block “H” represents the players, who have played for the club over Hilliard’s 18 year existence and who have helped build this program into the success that it is today.
The former coach of 1980 “Miracle On Ice” US Olympic Team, Herb Brooks, used to teach his players that “The name on the front of the jersey means a lot more than the name on the back.” This philosophy was adopted and remains true to this day for The Hilliard Hockey Club, as the tradition of the club is now older than the players coming into the program. It is the club’s belief that the winning history will last a long time through the development and support of our community. This community includes Jonathan Alder High School. Since a community helps to support a hockey club, Hilliard Hockey Club players know that their uniform represents not only themselves, but Jonathan Alder High School and the entire community as well.
