Chivalry Alive

Dear Editor,

Chivalry, or the courteous behavior that men show women during the process of courtship, is a highly debated topic, especially within the Millennial Generation. Many people think chivalry is a completely dead idea. This, however, is not the case in my opinion.

I feel like most men are not raised to treat women with the same level of respect while in relationships than past generations. Even though it is extremely uncommon today, the notion that absolutely all men do not act with chivalry is absurd.

Chivalry has evolved along with gender equality. As women became stronger and more independent, the need and desire to be treated differently evolved as well. Instead of men chasing women, relationships became a more mutual endeavor. Men today should view women as equals and treat them the way they treat other men. When pursuing a relationship, a man should treat a woman with the new form of chivalry: respect.

Respect is the 21st century form of chivalry because it is the best way to express how important someone is to you. Even though the old meaning of chivalry is dying out, the new version will hopefully catch on and be used more often soon.

Sincerely,

Logan Woods
