Indoor Track races past Otterbein

Gavin Frick, Editor in Chief

The indoor track season is here and Jonathan Alder has already seen some impressive times, despite racing only once. The team has been training since the beginning of November and has been training through extremely cold conditions. The Otterbein High School Invitational was the first chance for the athletes to show off their months of hard work.

Senior Aziza Ayoub raced to the third fastest time in the 60m prelims, running an 8.17, and winning her heat. In the finals, Ayoub came up just short and placed fourth, running an 8.25.  Ayoub also raced to a victory in the 800m. She won in dominating fashion, winning by more than three seconds. Ayoub also anchored the 4×800 relay, which won by 33 seconds. The 4x800m included junior Lexi Thorpe, sophomore Ashlyn McDaniel, and 8th grader Morgan Hicks, who all ran impressive times as well.

On the girls side, Thorpe placed 7th overall in the 400m dash, running a 1:07. McDaniel ran a 13:11 in the 3200m.

On the boys side, Jace Headings ran 2:11 in the 800m and anchored both the 4×400 and the 4×800.

Both, the 4x400m and 4x800m, included sophomore Clayton Boggs and freshmen Zach Hicks and Luke Malone. The team placed fourth in the 4×4 and third in the 4×8.

In the 1600m, freshmen Gavin Frick, Hicks, and Malone ran three impressive outings. Malone ran a 5:13, Frick ran a 5:18, and Hicks ran a 5:23.

In the 3200m, Frick and Gray each performed well. Frick ran a 11:13 and Gray ran a 11:35.

The team next races at Bowling Green on February 19.
