On April 25, Jonathan Alder students attended an Envirothon field trip. Students traveled to Fernald Preserve in Hamilton near Cincinnati, Ohio. Fernald Preserve is restored land, which used to be a uranium processing facility in the 1950’s. However, the processing facility was shut down in the late 1980’s to preserve nature.

    This year while exploring the state park, students gathered tests relating to this year’s issue– Soil and Water Conservation Stewardship.  

    Junior Peyton Mast stated that her favorite part was “being able to spend the day outside instead of in a stuffy classroom with fun people.” The field trip helped students understand more about the environment and the hard work put into preserving the environment.

    When asked if he thought the field trip was beneficial to the students, faculty adviser and science teacher Mitch Koester stated, “I think this trip is beneficial to the students that want to participate. They get to go learn about the environment and test their knowledge on topics that a lot of us take for granted. Hopefully, they will take this experience with them and become great stewards toward preserving the planet.”
