On Saturday, February 19, the wrestling team traveled to Springfield Shawnee High School for the Central Buckeye Conference Tournament. The team faced off against all teams in the Central Buckeye Conference, including teams like the Tecumseh Arrows and the Graham Falcons. The tournament marked the end of the regular season as the wrestlers prepare for the road to States.

Three of the wrestlers placed in the tournament. Freshman Reece Chapman placed 5th in the 106 pound weight class, senior Dylan Boysel placed 3rd in the 182 pound weight class, and senior Jacob Johnson placed 1st in the 120 pound weight class. Johnson was able to pin his Kenton Ridge opponent in the third period to win the championship.

Johnson was also recognized as Wrestler of the Year in the Kenton Trail Division. “I was surprised, but I knew this was something I was working towards for a long time,” Johnson said. Johnson, as well as the other Pioneer wrestlers, will compete at Sectionals this Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, at Licking Valley High School in Newark.
