Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24, the wrestlers met at Licking Valley High School in Newark to compete for a spot at the District tournament. This was the wrestlers’ first postseason meet on the road to the state tournament.  In order to qualify for the District tournament, wrestlers must place in the top 3 of their weight class at Sectionals.

Each member of the wrestling team made it to the second day of the tournament, though few were able to progress the following day. Junior Luke Stalnaker made it to the finals and placed sixth in the 170 pound weight class, along with senior Dylan Boysel who placed third in the 192 pound weight class, and senior Jacob Johnson who placed first in the 120 pound weight class.

Both seniors, Boysel and Johnson, will be advancing to the District tournament, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Claymont High School in Uhrichsville. This will be Johnson’s third year competing at the District tournament and Boysel’s first year competing at the District tournament.  Those who place in the top four at the District tournament will move on to the State tournament and be a step closer to being a state champion.
