Districts
March 7, 2018
Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3, the Jonathan Alder Wrestling team traveled to Claymont High School in Uhrichsville for the division 2 District Tournament. Seniors Dylan Boysel and Jacob Johnson qualified for the meet during the Sectional Tournament. Unfortunately, despite this being Boysel’s best season of his high school career, his season ended during the second round of consolation matches.
Johnson crushed opponent after opponent, earning himself a spot in the finals. For first place, Johnson faced off against an opponent from Indian Valley High School. The two were fairly evenly matched, and the outcome was difficult to predict, with the two only having earned a point each well into the second period.
Johnson was taken down during the second period but was able to catch his opponent on the edge of the mat for a take down in the last 10 seconds of the third period, tying the match 4-4. In overtime, Johnson brought his competitor to the ground for another takedown, winning the match 6-4 in the 120 pound championship.
Johnson will be moving on to compete in the State Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 8-10, at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus. This will be his third and final year returning to the State Tournament.
