On October 27, the Jonathan Alder music department held a fundraiser called J.A.M. Fest (Jonathan Alder Music Fest). J.A.M. Fest was an opportunity for high school students to show off their skills for their peers at a small concert in the cafeteria. Admission was only $5 and went to help fund the music department.

Students could compete by themselves, or in small groups. Awards were given out by judges for the top 3 performances. A People’s Choice Award was also awarded.  Aubrey Wright won first place doing a cover of “River Deep, Mountain High.” Second place went to Rebekah White and Hunter Larison singing “State of Grace” by Taylor Swift. Peyton Howard claimed 3rd place, singing “The House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals. The People’s Choice Award went to Annie Hershberg for singing “Wishing You Were Here” from The Phantom of The Opera.

Mr. Mayes, the choir teacher, also got up and sang for an unplanned encore. During a cover of “Sugar We’re Goin Down,” by Fall Out Boy. Mr. Mayes was very happy with how things turned out. “We raised $6,300,” he told me. “It was fantastic, it couldn’t have gone better.”

Before the concert itself, there was an auction on different mystery items. One of the baskets was a Space Jam-Jam-Space basket, making jokes about space, jam, and Space Jam all at once. It was a silent auction, and it helped bring in a lot of money.

J.A.M. Fest was a blast for everyone who went. “J.A.M. Fest was lit,” said senior Cam Skidmore. If you missed it this year, be sure to attend any future music festival; help support the music department!
