Exams Before Break: Do We Like It Or Not?
January 15, 2019
Years before, Jonathan Alder used to have exams after break. They eventually stopped doing it due to the amount of work given over break and the complaints of parents, according to secretary Lisa Puckett.
Some students such as Brelyn Gregory, a JA Junior, believes firmly that exams should be before break. She states that she doesn’t like the idea of coming back over a long break just to take exams. “I wouldn’t want to forget anything important,” she said. “And I don’t want to have to study or worry about exams when I’m supposed to be enjoying time with my family.”
A majority of students and teachers appreciated exams before break. The two weeks back from break it seems that students have lower motivation levels, and trying to complete the classes for the semester can be a struggle.
Others had different views. “I like them two weeks after (break) because it gives more time to study,” said Cheyanne Millington of the Junior class. “You have enough time to prepare for the test and get better at it.”
And some, such as algebra teacher Darren Clark, don’t have a real preference. “My only stipulation is the amount of time post winter break that we have before the end of the nine weeks.” He explains, “If there’s only one or two weeks until the end of the quarter it’s hard to prep for exams and get them done.”
What do you prefer? Should we have exams before or after Christmas break?
