The Jonathan Alder football team traveled to Northwestern on September 10th for their first conference game of the season.

The cheerleaders, who travel with the team, got new uniforms which they showed off at the game, as well as new pom poms. Senior Hailey Lisska has been on the cheer team for 2 years. “We were all super excited about our new uniforms because they took so long to come in,” Lissak says. “The energy at the game was a lot better than most because we were winning and it was a lot of fun having the band cheer us on too.” The band didn’t travel with the team last year due to COVID restrictions, but they are back to performing at every game this season.

At half time the band performed “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele, then “Believer” by Imagine Dragons and closed with “Toxic” by Britney Spears. Drum major Isaiah Heyman had his feature in “Believer” where he performed many tricks and hyped the crowd up. “The energy at the game was absolutely fantastic, that away fans were really getting into it and cheering for every trick I caught,” says Heyman. “I had a good performance that night.”

The energy at the game was high and it was supportive because of both the band and the momentum from the team. Senior Will Heisler has been on the team for 4 years and plays running back:; “I didn’t play, but I was super happy that we won, and the general team atmosphere is a feeling of family,” Heisler says. “Getting that first win, finally has lifted a burden off our shoulders, we now know what we need to do to be successful.”

At the end of the game, the Pioneers pulled through and won 45-14 against Northwestern. Their next game is home against the undefeated North Union; this game will also be another conference game.
