Shrek the Musical is Underway
April 13, 2022
Since the release of the cast list in December, the actors of “Shrek” have been hard at work. Almost every Tuesday and Thursday, they practice from 3 p.m to 9 p.m, and also every Wednesday until 5 p.m. Although it may be too early to tell, everyone reports positively on the quality of the rehearsals so far.
Kristen Tillyer, the costume designer, says, “I think it’s going well so far. The vocals are getting mastered; I think it’s very exciting. I’ve heard little snippets of the trio of Evan [Stage], Elyse [Tillyer] and Joel [Mitchell] and it sounds really good.”
The other side of musicals is the dancing, which, according to Tillyer, is also moving along. “… the tap dancing is, you know, it’s scary and it’s daunting but I think they’ll get it down,” she says. “It’s moving along nicely considering it’s so much later in the year.”
According to sophomore Matthew Hirshberg, “While it has been stressful, it has been rewarding to see the show come together.”
Lead director Nick Mayes is excited for the community to see the show. “It’s fantastic. I think it might be some of our best singers that we’ve had, best chorus, our leads are stellar,” he says. “I think it’s gonna be great. We have a lot of interest in the musical this year. We sold a lot of pre-sale tickets, a lot more than we usually do.”
Pre-sale tickets are still available to purchase here. “Shrek: the Musical” show dates are April 28th through May 1st.
