At 7:00 AM on a Thursday morning in the school library, the energetic adviser, Math teacher Leslie Russell, stands in front of 50 yawning student council members. Russell and her fellow adviser, history teacher Megan Toddy, volunteered to become advisers after the spot became vacant with history teacher Jackie Smith’s departure from Jonathan Alder.

When asked on how she felt about  student council so far, Russell responded, “I am so happy to be working with Toddy and our fabulous student council.” Russell also stated that they are in for some hard work to fulfill their responsibilities which include planning and decorating for the October 10 “Under the Stars” Homecoming as well as carrying out fundraisers for various foundations.

Student council’s latest fundraiser duties are selling pink-out shirts for the October 23 football game against River Valley for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. They will also conduct the annual Leukemia and Lymphoma Fundraiser; however, it will look different this year. While the rest of the student council’s responsibilities are not yet clear, Russell is confident in her students.

If you have any ideas for school improvements, the student council and the advisers would love for you to share your thoughts with them, or better yet, join student council!
