Alder students Aurin for big changes

It’s a new school year at Jonathan Alder, which means several new faces in the hallways, one of which so happens to be new principal Michael Aurin. “I believe he has great intentions. He is highly enthusiastic; he’s working hard to improve things,” stated Jonathan Alder’s assistant principal Mark Fenik.

For the past three years, Aurin was the assistant principal at Dublin Jerome High School. Jonathan Alder is a much different environment than Dublin. Aurin stated, “There are about 1000 fewer students and 70 fewer staff, so it is much easier to get to know students, their families and staff.” Before his duties as principal, he was a science teacher at Dublin Scioto for four years, and in 2004 he moved to Jerome where he was also a science teacher for five more years.

The students are slowly but surely getting to know the new principal of Alder. Senior Reign Yoder stated, “I love how involved he is with all the students.” You can always find Aurin in the hallways during class changes interacting with students.

When Fenik was asked if Aurin could fill retiree, Phil Harris’ shoes, his response was, “No one can fill Harris’ shoes. Mr. Aurin is a different person, that no matter who occupies the principal’s job at this time, it’s difficult to replace a principals who had been here for 30 years.” He does have big shoes to fill, but with his positive attitude and influence on the school, he just might create shoes of his own to be filled one day.
