Directly following the events of Marvel’s hit television miniseries “WandaVision” and the film “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” the newest superhero film follows Doctor Steven Strange as he deals with the aftermath of casting a forbidden spell, which opened the multiverse and revealed the biggest Marvel threat yet. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” fits well into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while also adding elements we’ve never seen before in a Marvel film. Director Sam Raimi, best known for the Spider-Man trilogy, added his own creative touch and made Marvel’s first horror movie.

The tone of the movie was meant to induce a feeling of horror in the audience, and the cinematography did just that. The composition of scenes were similar to that of famous horror films, such as “The Conjuring” and “The Ring.” It was clear the filmmakers were not afraid of shocking violence and gore. Raimi did a fantastic job of building suspense and dread, which is something Marvel fans have never seen before in a superhero film.

This new sequel to “Doctor Strange” was yet another visually pleasing Marvel movie. Not only did Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch’s powers look great, the special effects throughout the entire movie held up to the height of Marvel standards. The fight scenes were well choreographed and seemed natural, which is vital in a superhero movie. With the dark undertones, the sense of horror was maintained through the visuals.

The soundtrack, composed by Danny Elfman, added to the movie with each individual score. The music kept the audience enthralled alongside the plot, and it added to each scene. The soundtrack helped build suspense to add to the terror, and shifted tones to fit more melancholic scenes. The intensity of the entire composition kept the audience bewitched.

The plot truly lived up to the expectations of a typical Marvel film. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” tossed its characters and its audience into psychological turmoil in mind-bending conflict. Although I felt as if the pacing was too quick, with the antagonist being revealed too soon and overall somewhat fast-paced, the film was terrifying and had well thought out twists that kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

To top it all off, the cast of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” put together enchanting performances that brought the characters to life. Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch, portrayed her character’s descent into madness extremely well and made it seem natural and realistic. Although it was Doctor Strange’s movie, Olsen’s character definitely outshone with her performance.

With the combination of exceptional actors and a top-tier crew, the creators of the newest Marvel film created one of the best superhero films yet with a twist of terror.
