2022 was a big year for movies with the release of highly anticipated films like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: the Way of Water,” however, the lineup of movies debuting in 2023 includes even more potential blockbusters. Here are some of this year’s most anticipated movies:

Starting off the list is “Missing.” This movie follows June (played by Storm Reid), a girl whose mother disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend. Her search for answers is hindered by international bureaucracy and red tape. Thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all of the latest technology at her disposal to try and find her mother before it’s too late. As she digs ever deeper, her digital sleuthing soon raises more questions. This movie stars Storm Reid, Nia Long (playing Grace Allen) and Ken Leung (playing Kevin Lin). “Missing” is directed by Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick, who are known for the movies “Consequential” and “Run.”  This movie is a drama/thriller set to release Jan. 20, 2023. 

“Dune: Part Two” is a Sci-Fi adventure movie starring Timothee Chalamet (playing Paul Atreides), Zendaya (Playing Chani) and Austin Butler (playing Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen). “Dune: Part Two” is a continuation of the first story where “Paul Atredies unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the universe, he must prevent a terrible future only he can see.” This movie is directed by Denis Vileneuve, who directed the 2022 “Dune” film and is set to release Nov. 3, 2023. 

“Fast X” or Fast and Furious 10, stars Vin Diesel, Brie Larson, Michelle Rodriguez and Sung Kang, all reprising their roles from the previous films. “Fast X” also stars Jason Momoa (playing Dante). This is the next installment of the film series in which Dominic Toretto and his crew must seek help in their fight against Cipher, an international criminal and one of the main antagonists in some of the later movies in the series, who recruits Dante, a mysterious new adversary. “Fast X” is an adventure and action film set to release May 19, 2023. 

“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” is another highly anticipated 2023 movie. This Sci-fi/action film takes place in 1994 when a pair of human archeologists from Brooklyn come into an ancient conflict through a globe-trotting adventure with the Autobots that ties in with three factions of the Transformers race: the Maximals, the Predacons, and the Terrorcons. This movie is based on the “Transformers: Beast Wars” storyline from the 1990s. “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” stars Anthony Ramos as Noah, Dominique Fishback as Elena, Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, Ron Perlman as Optimus Primal, and Peter Dinklage as Scourge. This movie is directed by Steven Caple Jr, known for the movies “The Land” and “Creed (ll).” The film is set to release June 9, 2023.

 Many of the movies compiled are sequels or spinoffs, which adds to the anticipation of their releases. While all of the debuting titles are not yet known, these movies are some of the most exciting for avid moviegoers.
