Liz Schoppelrei is a 2011 graduate from Jonathan Alder. She is currently attending Wright State University. She is a Spanish major with German and Creative Writing minors and a certificate in Women’s Studies. She has studied abroad in Costa Rica and is spending 8 months in Germany for her final year of undergrad. She has published a short story, multiple poems, and also academic essays in various journals and magazines. Additionally, she is very active in the LGBTQIA community.  She served as the Wright State University President of Rainbow Alliance and lead this organization to claim the Wright State Diversity Award in 2015.
Liz’s advice for current students is to constantly question the world around you and to think critically about the ways in which systems of oppression can dictate the experiences of people of different identities.
Her take on life after high school is this: “In high school, I was insulated from much of what exists in the world. Sometimes leaving those zones of comfort can allow you to learn more about yourself and more about the world around you. I am a much better person now, and each new experience I encounter helps me on the way to the person who I want to be.
