This fall, Jonathan Alder welcomes a new choir teacher. Mr. Nicholas Mayes teaches all of the high school choir classes as well as the junior high choir classes, in the Jonathan Alder district.

After meeting some of the staff and students, he figured that this was the place to be. He is fresh from Otterbein University, except for some odd jobs in the food business.

Mayes is taking over for a well-liked teacher but is handling the pressure well and is “doing his own thing.” He enjoys all kinds of music, except country, but especially loves jazz and different types of classical music. His taste in music will have some influence on the choirs. In fact, the show choir is performing jazz this year.

Mayes wants not only the Musical to be good but to have spectacular choirs as well. He wants to give the students more opportunities to perform, and get the Jonathan Alder choir name out there. His goal is to encourage a lifelong love of music and individual growth in students.
