Winter sports 2025-2026 season overview

Jonathan Alder winter sports had several successful seasons. Scroll through the box below for a recap on each sport.

Swimming

This season girls swimming did a phenomenal job. Almost all girls were able to qualify for districts. Boys swimming went from only having two swimmers last year to having 5. They all made massive improvements throughout the season.

Junior Henry Drewes was able to qualify for states for the first time in two different events. “My favorite part of this season was states because the atmosphere there was unmatched,” says Drewes. “It was overall super exciting just being around the best swimmers there is.”

Girls:

How far they got: Multiple individuals at districts and Lily Schneider completed at the state level.

Team Awards: 2nd place at CBC meet, Second Team 400 yard freestyle relay, and Special Mention 200 yard medley relay.

Individual Awards: Senior Lily Schneider First Team CBC for 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Schnieder state runner up in 100 breaststroke, senior Emme Edwards Special Mention 100 butterfly, and senior Leah Roseberry Sportsmanship Award.

Boys:

How far they got: One individual at districts (Drewes). One individual at states (Drewes).

Individual Awards: Drewes CBC First Team 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard backstroke, freshman Andrew Bush CBC Second Team 100 yard freestyle, Bush CBC Special Mention 100 yard backstroke, and sophomore Ian Yoder CBC Sportsmanship Award.
Wrestling

The girls team was able to almost double from how many wrestlers they had last season, as well as having a state runner up. Wrestling ended the season with three state qualifiers, and two alternates.

Junior Rayce Watson was one of the wrestlers who qualified for states. “My favorite part of this season would be getting some great food with the team and the hotel trips because they're always fun,” says Watson. "It's like going on a short vacation with your best friends.”

Girls-

How far they got: Individuals at CBC, sectionals, districts, and states.

Team Awards: Second place at CBC meet.

Individual Awards: Freshman Reese Thomas state runner up, senior Victoria Bobrova state alternate, CBC First Team senior Tristian Gregory, Victoria Bobrova and Thomas, CBC Second Team senior Bella Lopez and junior Allison Funk, and CBC Sportsmanship Award Lopez.

Boys-

How far they got: Individuals at CBC, sectionals, districts, and states.

Team Awards: 1st at CBC meet.

Individual Awards: Rayce Watson 4th place at states, junior Paul Byerly state qualifier, junior Edward Anderson state alternate, CBC Second Team junior Marcos Martinez, Watson, senior Nixon Baker, junior Grant Teach, junior Cam Watkins and Byerly, and Sportsmanship Award Baker.
Basketball

Boys basketball was able to make it deep into their regional tournament. Sophomore Danny Bentley was in his second year as a varsity player and received the CBC Player of the Year Award.

Senior Caroline Timberlake says teamwork was a strength of the season for the girls. “We did better than I had expected,” she says. “We stayed together really well…like as one.”

Girls-

Record: 4-19

How far they got: No post season

Individual Awards: CBC First Team sophomore Kennedy McGrath, CBC Special Mention sophomore Izzy Griffin, and CBC Sportsmanship Award Caroline Timberlake.

Boys-

Record: 21-6

How far they got: Regional Semifinals

Individual Awards: Player of the Year and CBC First Team Danny Bentley, CBC Second Team senior Chase Muetzel and junior Brady Sweet, Special Mention senior Garrett Bauer, and Sportsmanship Award sophomore Trey Bentley
Bowling

Bowling has had several successful runs in the last few years, and they continued being competitive this year, including sophomore Lydia Roseberry, who was able to qualify for districts.

“My favorite part of this season was probably spending it with my team,” says Roseberry. “My team helps me quite a bit. And I help them in the best way I can.”

Girls-

Record: 3-15

How far they got: Sectionals and one individual (Lydia Roseberry) at districts.

Individual Awards: Roseberry district qualifier and CBC Sportsmanship Award, junior Ellie Wilkin CBC Second Team, 2nd place at Tigerup High School Bowling Tournament, All Tournament Team at the Muskingum University Invitational.

Record: 13-5

Boys-

How far they got: Districts.

Team Awards: 4th place at sectionals, runner-up at the Tiger Up High School Bowling Tournament, 1st place at the Muskingum University Invitational.

Individual Awards: First Team seniors Fred Bluhm and Braden Warren, Second Team sophomore Cooper Fleming, senior Grant Headings and juniors Gavin Murphy. Warren was also CBC Alder athlete of the month for January and won the Tiger Up Highschool Bowling Tournament, and Bluhm achieved All Tournament team at the Muskingum University Invitational.

Gwyn is a sophomore and in her first year of journalism. She joined because she wanted to write about things that are important to her, and give recognition to sports teams here at JA. Gwyn is involved in two sports, swimming and wrestling. She’s been swimming for years, and this is her first year wrestling. In her free time, she likes to listen to music, hangout with friends, and work out. She is excited to write and collaborate with her classmates this school year.
