The tennis team hits the court

The Jonathan Alder boys tennis team is expected to start practices on March 7 to prepare for the upcoming tennis season. After losing eight seniors from last year’s team, head varsity coach and math teacher Ryan Swinehart and junior varsity coach and math teacher Matt Carpenter are excited to see how well the younger talent on the team will perform now that they are getting their chance to perform on the varsity level.

The team is looking forward to defending their Mid Ohio Athletic Conference (MOAC) championship this season. Alder’s biggest competition within the MOAC are the two runners-up from last year, Buckeye Valley and Marion Pleasant.

The only returning senior to the tennis team is Logan Woods. The addition of seniors Josh Becker and DeSean Wright will give the team some extra leadership for the senior class this season. The team is expecting the junior and sophomore classes to fill in for the losses of the seniors from last year’s team that ended with a 15-2 team record.

Coach Swinehart’s annual seeding tournament will be held on March 14-16 from after school to sundown. This unique competition helps the coaches determine where all of the players that tried out  will be positioned at the beginning of the season. It helps to show the coaches who needs more help and who is ready to start the season on the varsity and junior varsity teams.
