Lacrosse takes the field

The Jonathan Alder club lacrosse team has started to prepare for their 2016 spring season. This is an important year because this is the final season for many of the founding members of the team. Interest for the sport began six years ago when this year’s senior class built up enough players to start a club team. Without any prior experience, the team has slowly progressed over the years and now expects its best season yet.

The team’s coaches are Rob Davis and Mike Hamer. They are parents of players on the team that have decided to volunteer their time to lead the surging lacrosse program within Jonathan Alder along with their sons.

The lacrosse program will take a major hit at the end of the season with the loss of a large amount of seniors. Some of the seniors on this year’s team include: Shane Blacka, Andrew Miller, Broderick Besinger, Riley McKenna, Zach Beard, Trevor Stage, Jake Davis, Connor Hamer, Cody Hamer, Jake Leroy, Aaron Fraley, and many others.

Besinger, the goalie of the varsity team, stated, “We expect to have our best season yet. The team has been working hard for the past six years and hope to advance far in the state tournament this season.” Besinger also mentioned that, “Our biggest rivals that we have to face during the season this year are Buckeye Valley, Licking Valley, and Little Miami. We have a history with these teams and the games can sometimes get intense.”

Hopefully the lacrosse team can continue to build and improve off of the years of practice and preparation they have put into advancing the program at Jonathan Alder. The team plays at both the high school and junior high football fields.
