The Jonathan Alder girls and boys bowling teams have been training since November in preparation for their upcoming 2015/16 season. The Jonathan Alder boys and girls teams are off to a good start with the records of two wins and one loss.

The girls team consists of seniors Kaylee Griest and Megan Knox; juniors Mackenzie Heimlich, Trisha Fox and Morgan Arbogast and Janelle McNeill; sophomores Rachel Kaesar, Hallie Nichols, Regina Campbell, Olivia Johnson, Natalie Ratliff and Rena Kurts; freshman Tabitha Bartoe. The Jonathan Alder boys varsity team includes seniors Sawyer Fleming, Broderick Bessinger and DeSean Wright; juniors Nate Sullivan and Brandon Nichols; sophomores Zach Otto, Darren Maynard, Josh Schrock, Daniel Miller, Caleb Stoll and freshmen Andrew Clark, and Alex Huggins.

The bowling teams have a vigorous schedule this year, participating in 16 matches and nine tournaments. When asked how this team is different from previous years, junior Mackenzie Heimlich replied, “This year our team is more experienced and we are stronger. We are more focused and determined to win and play better as a team.”

“Bowling is a lot different from any other sport because you get to compete not only as a team but also individually. I think each person does a good job of leading the team in different ways, even though we tend to get discouraged,” stated Heimlich when asked why she enjoyed bowling.

Senior Broderick Besigner added, ¨Being this early in the season, you can already tell we need a lot more practice. We need to be more consistent and make our spares. If we can do that, I think we can easily make it back to the state tournament.”

With their hard work and determination the bowlers are looking forward to beating their rival, Buckeye Valley, on January 15. The girls’ State Championship will take place on March 6 in Columbus. The boys’ tournament will follow on March 13.
