Lady Pioneers suffer a tough week

Tori Walker, Billing Manager

This season isn’t going as well as the girls’ basketball team would have hoped. On January 16, the Lady Pioneers faced Marion Harding for the second time this season. After the Pioneers defeated Harding by only six points in their first matchup, the girls of Harding were looking for revenge. After a very hard fought battle, that’s exactly what they got. Marion Harding came out on top with a final score of 50 to 52.

The next challenge the Lady Pioneers faced was the Panthers of Hilliard Darby. To say the Panthers had an amazing game would be an understatement. It seemed as if they could not miss a shot. The Lady Pioneers were no competition to the Panthers; the game ended with a final score of 44 to 70.

On January 21, the Lady Pioneers had a league game against the Marion Pleasant Spartans. Things were looking promising for the Lady Pioneers, with a score of 18 to 13 at halftime. Unfortunately, the Spartans turned it on in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Pioneers 14 to 2. The Lady Pioneers fought hard but could not make up the difference. The game ended with a final score of 30 to 41.

To wrap up the week, the Lady Pioneers faced the girls of River Valley High School on January 23 for their second meeting of the season. This second time around the Lady Pioneers were hoping for a victory but sadly could not succeed. The Lady Pioneers fell short once again with a final score of 50 to 62.

This week the Lady Pioneers will play on January 27, at home against North Union, tipoff at 7:30 pm and January 30, at home against Buckeye Valley, tipoff at 7:30 pm. January 30 is also senior night for the Lady Pioneers. The six seniors will walk at 7 pm, directly after the JV game.
