Alder softball starts out strong

Tori Walker, Billing Manager

The season is here for the Jonathan Alder softball team. Their season opener was Saturday, March 26 against the Roughriders of West Jefferson High School. It was a battle under the lights at Pony field in Pastime Park. The crowd was one of the biggest the Lady Pioneers have ever had, but that did not stop them from taking the victory over the Roughriders. The final score of the Lady Pioneers’ season opener was 8 to 0.

On Tuesday, March 29, the Lady Pioneers had a back and forth battle with the Hawks from Hartley High School. The Lady Pioneers got up on the Hawks 3 to 0 in the third inning. However Hartley’s next at bat they answered those three run with three runs of their own. This only started the battle for victory. The Lady pioneers put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. The score was now 5 to 3 going into the sixth inning, and Hartley was not giving up easily. The Hawks scored three runs and took the lead for the first time. The Lady Pioneers were not finished yet; they immediately took the lead back by scoring two runs. The battle was finally over as the Lady Pioneers walked away with a victory and a final score of 7 to 6.

The Lady Pioneers had their first league game on Wednesday, March 30 against the Marion Harding Presidents. The Lady Pioneers put one run up in the second inning. The game was then left scoreless again until the fifth inning when the Lady Pioneers put five more runs on the board. The Presidents snuck in one run during the sixth inning, but that would be their only run for the game, giving the victory to the Lady Pioneers. The final score was 6 to 1.
