Lincoln Wilson is a member of the school’s track team for both indoors and outdoors. He also participates in cross country and FCA. He is going to attend the University of Findlay and major in biochemistry, and, after that, he is hoping to get accepted into the Biochemistry master’s program at The Ohio State University.
Q: What is your favorite memory of your time at Alder?
A: Oh, that’s hard. There’s definitely a lot to choose from, but I feel like a reoccurring memory is usually cross country camp for us. It’s a fun time for hanging out with friends for four days in Hocking Hills. I think specifically my senior year was pretty memorable just because it was the last time and getting to do that again with all my friends that I’ve been doing that with since like 8th grade, so that’s probably the most memorable.
Q: What are three things you can’t live without?
A: I think first I’ll have to say my Bible, just because I think that’s a real core part of who I am and it has guided me throughout my life. Next I’d probably say my phone just because, being able to access contacts and being able to communicate with different people even when I can’t see them is really nice, and for entertainment purposes, too, I guess. And then a third thing, I’d say like my running shoes. I like to run a lot, so even if that’s not for a specific purpose, it’s a good way to stay in shape and, you know, I just enjoy doing it leisurely, so probably those three things.
Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
A: I feel one thing that some people might not know is that recently I’ve gotten really into scientific research and that type of background. I feel like I used to not really like science, but now I’m getting into it more, because I plan on majoring in biochemistry and then hoping to go down a food science route. So, I think that might be something that not a lot of people know. I’m also hoping to maybe do a food science master’s program in a few years.
Q: How would you define yourself in three words?
A: Ooh, three words: child of God.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
A: Hmm, that’s a hard one. I think one piece of advice, I think this is kind of a cliche, I don’t know who this quote is from, but I think ‘comparison is the thief of joy,’ because that can apply to a lot of things in life. So, that’s a really good piece of advice just to focus on your own journey and not how it compares to other people’s.
Q: If you made a documentary, what would it be about and why?
A: Probably something running related because that’s a really big hobby of mine. Or maybe something related to kind of the whole, I don’t want to say pandemic, but the whole issue with processed foods in the modern day. It’s something super specific, but I guess kind of thinking down the whole food science route, I guess that’s something that has so much content behind it that you can put it all into a well thought out documentary.
Q: What is the last piece of content you consumed that made you cry?
A: Yeah, I don’t remember watching anything that made me cry from sadness, but as far as laughter, it definitely would have to be a funny video from a friend. I’m talking probably as recently as a few weeks ago. I mean, that happens a lot, where we’ll just go and make funny videos and send to each other.
Q: What is a song you can listen to on repeat?
A: Right now, it’s definitely got to be some type of George Harrison song. Maybe “I Live for You” by George Harrison. That’s a really good one right now.
Q: If you could switch lives with anyone for a day, who would it be?
A: I feel like realistically, I wouldn’t want to do that. But I think just the first person that comes to mind right now is Jonas Watkins. Just because I hear all these stories about all these cool adventures he’s going on with backpacking related stuff. So he gets to go in nature a lot and backpack and go on these fun trips. I know he’s doing the Appalachian Trail soon, I think this spring or the summer. So I think he would be a cool person to switch with for a day.
Q: What is your dream place to visit?
A: I feel like I could choose a lot of things. Oh, I was just looking at a bunch of pictures of Sequoia National Park. That just seems cool. I don’t know why, but I like the big trees. So I think that’d be pretty cool to go to, or maybe somewhere in Alaska.
Q: What’s the biggest surprise you’ve had?
A: I think one of the biggest, maybe not the biggest surprise, but just the one that comes to mind is just, I think how far I’ve been able to go in running and how committed I’ve become to it, because I didn’t really picture myself coming this far in my high school journey. So I guess the fact that I’ve come this far and that I’m still committed to it is I don’t want to say necessarily like crazy surprising, but it’s definitely something that kind of keeps you on your heels.
Q: What three people, living or dead, would you like to make dinner for?
A: Definitely Jesus. I mean, that’d be a fun one. Maybe my grandpa because he passed away a few years ago. So I think just having a meal with him again would be really nice. And then maybe, Bob Marley because he had a really big impact on a lot of peace and violence issues. So it’d be cool to just sit down and listen to some reggae music with him and eat some food.
Q: What was the most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?
A: You know, it doesn’t sound too crazy like adventurous, but kind of the first few times that I’ve gone backpacking, I didn’t really go anywhere far away. I just went to a Battelle Derby, which is like 30 minutes from here so not crazy adventurous, but I think just the things that we did. We did a decent bit of hiking out to where we actually set up camp and just walked around a bunch of places I haven’t been. Went and kind of waded in the creek. So, I mean, hoping to do more adventurous stuff, but that might be the most right now.
Q: What would you like to be remembered for?
A: I think having an impact on the way other people view Christianity and hoping to, I guess, have a positive effect on spreading God’s love.
