Max Metz is the drum major of the marching band, a leading player on the boy’s tennis team, and a member of quick recall. He is also part of concert band and participates in the teacher assistant program for junior high band students. After high school he plans to attend The Ohio State University and potentially go into business as well as try out for the T.B.D.B.I.T.L. (The Best Dang Band in the Land)
Q. What’s your favorite memory of your time at Alder?
A. I think honestly…this Disney trip that we’re going on for band here soon, but right now…any and all of my extracurricular activities. So tennis, I have a lot of fun in the van rides and also just obviously doing the sport, but I also really enjoy our bus rides and just being able to talk to people, and play music in band, and also quick recall where I just get to hang out with my friends and answer questions that I may or may not know.
Q. What are three things you can’t live without?
A. I probably couldn’t live without pizza, pancakes, or air.
Q. What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
A. I feel like some people don’t know that I actually moved schools in sixth grade. So, I moved here in sixth grade and then that’s when I actually decided to join band, for no reason at all, because in my past school I just did other sports. I played football, I played basketball, baseball, pretty much all the things you can do and then I moved here and just did band.
Q. How would you define yourself in three words?
A. Hyper, fun, and enjoyable.
Q. What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
A. Honestly, I’ve gotten so much advice from our band director, Mr. Hennig, that I’ve kind of just moved it into my lifestyle. So, it’s not necessarily just learning it but living it. So, I don’t really recall most of his things, but I don’t know if there’s like one thing that stuck out that was just like, I got to remember that because that’s awesome. But Mr. Hennig definitely gives a lot of good life lessons.
Q. If you made a documentary, what would it be about and why?
A. I would probably make it, let me think. I think I might do a documentary on my lifestyle, just so I can try and keep myself accountable with it and be better. And also, just show how I think I could help others with maybe ways they struggle or ways they could just improve upon themselves.
Q. What is the last piece of content you consumed that made you cry?
A. Probably laughing at “Spongebob” or Reels.
Q. What is a song you can listen to on repeat?
A. Probably any John Williams music from his movies or “Ocean Man” from the end of the “Spongebob” movie.
Q. If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would it be?
A. I’d just say someone from a different country, nobody in particular, just because I want to see a difference in lifestyles that we have. And also, just like what hardships they have to go through that we don’t really think about over here.
Q. What is your dream place to visit?
A. Probably anywhere tropical, but honestly, as I’m getting older, I’m really liking the mountains more. And I think that they’re really cool, like waterfalls and cliffs. Those just look really cool to me, but I want a lot of greenery still. I don’t want to go to like some random place that’s just really tall, looks like giant stone and sand. I just want to go to like a rainforest or something. I think that’d be pretty cool.
Q. What’s the biggest surprise you’ve had?
A. Probably the biggest surprise I’ve had at least this year was the car accident that my dad got into which he is okay from. He did not get injured, at least very bad. Why it was so surprising is just because I just showed up to school as a normal day and then I got a message that he got in an accident. But the second part of this is that I was going to get a car that same day apparently and didn’t know about it until after and so my car getting was delayed for about a month from that.
Q. What three people living or dead would you like to make dinner for?
A. I probably shouldn’t make him dinner because I’m not the greatest cook at all, but I’d like to cook for Gordon Ramsay…. LeBron James so I can see him, and my family and friends just in general any of them.
Q. What was the most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?
A. If I had to say the most adventurous thing, it would probably be the AMA trip or American Music Abroad trip that I did after my sophomore year. I believe that was where I went to Pennsylvania. I’m pretty sure I went to a college there and met up with a bunch of different students including some from our own high school that learned some concert music for about three days, and then we performed there at the high school, or at the college. Then after we did that we flew to Europe and we traveled around Europe for about three weeks and just a lot of different countries…we went to Germany and Budapest. Honestly, I can’t really think of many else on top of my head, but we went to many places and it was just nice to see like their culture and their foods and all that, and it was pretty fun. Also to just play in those places.
Q. What would you like to be remembered for?
A. I would like to be remembered to be the person that was reliable, but also fun to be around.
